So, I read this article called Teachers are Quitting. And it talks about how many teachers are quitting their jobs after only 5 to 7 years of working. And it says theyre quitting because,

More and more children are coming without family support. ,Teachers are required to do more and more in a limited period of time. ,Teachers are expected to be experts in all fields,Too little planning time,Too much paperwork,Unreliable assistance from the district,Rarely have a day off,Lack of support,Teachers work weekends without pay,Teachers spend summer vacations taking college classes or preparing for the next school year,Students always need more time and attention.

The reason I think teachers are quitting, is because they work too much. And dont get paid very highly for all of the things that they do. And students are really rude. And criticize everything. It happens all the time. You hear kids talking about how much they hate a teacher, and about how they cant teach. They just can be really mean. Also each year it seems like there's more and more school shootings and stuff like that. And its actually an unsafe job sometimes if you think about it. Because at any time a student can lash out at you. And parents too, some peoples parents at parent-teacher confrences get rather angry and start yelling at the teachers blaming them not their kids for why their kids are doing poorly.

Which i see why they would quit. But it also said recently that in Iowa there has been a declining population of teachers in smaller, rural areas. Especially in the areas of
math ,science, foreign language and special education.

So the state of Iowa passed the "teacher quality law" which raised the saleries of teachers. Making Iowa the 25th position in the nation. But as theyre phasing this law in the next two years, other states are raising their teacher saleries too. Which is why many graduates who want to be teachers leave the state of Iowa.

I think if i did go to college to become a teacher and did all that, that I would leave Iowa too. Because first off, I dont want to stay here for the rest of my life, I want to move to a bigger place. But it would probably be harder to find a teaching job in bigger places.
Well for the project we're doing, I decided I wanted to be an elmentary school teacher when i go to college.
The reason I want to become an elementary school teacher is because I think it would be a fun job to work with little kids.

And I've always wanted to do that. Since i was a little kid too. All i really know about how to become one is that you need a degree in Elementary Education in an area such as math, science or reading.

And i need to earn a bachelor's degree. And you have to take classes in basic math, social sciences, physical sciences, literature and music.

And that's all I really know. Which isn't much.

But there are alot of teachers who are getting fired because the school can't afford to have many because of their low income.

But teachers will always be needed in the future, i think. Because someone needs to teach kids things.
But teachers don't get that much money, but Im okay with that.

But it seems to me like teachers arent very respected anymore.
Kids say things they shouldnt say to teachers.

And television shows with teachers always make the teachers seem stupid and mean.
Like Saved By The Bell, Degrassi, Simpsons. I dont know, but in every show basically the teacher is the bad one.

In Saved By the Bell, Mr. Belding is always getting pranked on and made fun of. In Degrassi all the teachers are pretty much hated except for one of them since one of the main character's father is a teacher but the rest are disliked. And in The Simpsons; Bart tricks all of the teachers etc etc. Not that I'm complaining about it because it does make the show funnier i suppose, but I'm just saying it doesnt seem like teachers are very respected anymore.

The only show i can really think of that the teacher is shown as the good guy, is Boy Meets World. And that is cause Mr. Feeny is their teacher for like their whole lives basically. Ever since the first episode he was their teacher til they were in college. So all of them got pretty close with him.
