Book Summmmmmary.

The book I read was Close Encounters of the Third Grade Kind by Phillip Done. Done was actually nominated for the Disney Teacher of the Year Award. And the Charles Schwab Distinguished Teacher Award. So he must be a good teacher. Which is good. Because a book about teaching written by a really bad teacher would not be as good.

So,The book is about being a teacher of elementary kids. The book is mostly a bunch of stories that have happened to Done in his 20 or so years of teaching.  He also has another book about teaching little kids, it is called 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny.
Which I'm guessing is pretty much the same as Close Encounters of the Third Grade Kind.

The intended audience is people who are interested in teaching or want to be a teacher. But I also think the intended audience could be parents of younger children.
And the conversation the book is taking is about praising kids. And it is not saying any negative things about kids or anything like that. It is just talking about the cute-ish things kids do. So because of this
I think the purpose of this book was for other teachers of this grade to just relate too. And i think it was just written to entertain people with "how silly kids are." and what not.

It does not really give advice on how to be a teacher or anything though. Which we were supposed to read a book that does that I think, but I don’t know. The stories in here are about the most random things. The first stories start with the school year starting and what he is doing to get ready for everything. And how he prepares stuff. But in the beginning he does have a few pages called "Teachers 101" and it talks about how to get ready for school. And it has a section after that that tells you what grade you should teach if you want to be a teacher. And it briefly describes kindergartners through third graders and the things they do. Like first graders love being first in line and second graders love erasing. Just little things like that. And how to handle random situations.

Before I read the book I did not really think that it was just going to be stories. I thought it was going to be more of a how to be a better teacher book or something. But I'm glad it was not that kind of book. Because I highly doubt I would be able to get through the whole book if it was like that. And at least with how its written the stories are kind of interesting and funny making it a little bit easier to get through.
One story I found interesting was the the part where he tells you how to do things. Like how to get kids to read. He says just sit at your computer and start typing an email.

And some stories that I liked are the cursive one and the spelling one. And bubbles. But they are all pretty cute.I also like how he goes by months instead of chapters. It makes it more interesting I'm not sure how but I like it. But it isn't really my kind of book. So I did not really enjoy it. But I think that it's the most interesting a book about teaching can get.

But all in all, I think that anyone can read this book if they wanted too. It's not a very challenging book or anything. You just need to have some interest in children or teaching or something. Plus they are all short stories. But I guess since this is a book review, I should say if I would recommend it or not. Well, I would. Because it isn't a bad book or anything. But I would only recommend it if you like kids or are a teacher. Or want to be one.
